Richard McCarthy is at Stratton Mountain School, Vermont, USA, which specializes in producing skiing athletes (www.gosms.org) Richard's goal is to make the GB team and Ski Slalom races in the Olympics. Since Richard has been at the school he has realized just how high a goal that is. Fewer than 10% of the children attending his school make the US National Team (Most of the children at his school are US Citizens), nonetheless, it remains his goal and he is very determined to realize this. SMS has produced 30 Olympians as well as 110 US and Foreign National Team Members. Athletes from around the world include England, Bulgaria, CzechRepbulic, Slovenia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zeland, Canada and Romania All funds raised go towards Richards skiing equipment, travel and accommodation. Richard requires 4 new pairs of skies each season, race boots, a special road bike for training and travel to national and international races and training. The overall funding cost per year currently stands at around $60,000.00.
